NEW DELHI: The South-West Delhi police claim to have caught a group of four juveniles who were allegedly involved in a number of burglaries and thefts in Sarojini Nagar and have recovered stolen property worth nearly Rs 3 lakhs from their possession. The police said all the four accused were in the age group of 12 to 16 years and used to commit burglaries and thefts with a great deal of confidence. Due to their activities, the people of the area were living under constant threat. Most recently, the accused had committed a burglary at Moti Bagh I on May 1. Of the stolen goods, jewellery and cash worth Rs 2.5 lakhs has been recovered at their instance. Pointing out that the four juveniles used to sleep on the pavements and lacked parental care, protection and emotional support, the police said their leader was the youngest among them who despite his tender age possessed the sharpest criminal mind and used to identify and target the houses. Along with two of his associates, this gang leader was involved in about seven cases of break-ins. Following a spate of thefts and burglaries in the Sarojini Nagar area, a special team had been constituted to nab the culprits and while working on the incidents, it developed intelligence about the tender age of the culprits. Subsequently on May 2, two police personnel while on patrolling duty at the Sarojini Nagar Market, spotted four young boys roaming the place and spending money lavishly. Subsequently, the police personnel apprehended the boys and questioned them. Interrogation of the accused revealed that on May 1 they had entered a house in Moti Bagh I by scaling the courtyard gate and by removing the grill of the back window. Then through a small hole in the window, the boy with the smallest frame was pushed in and he removed a large amount of cash and jewellery from the house. The police have since recovered Rs 11,300 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakhs from the possession of the accused.
