K. Karunakaran's audacious move to float a new party may turn out to be a misadventure. For long, he had been lobbying for protection of his family's interests, which did not go down well even within his faction in the Congress. Now his National Congress (Indira) has hinted at aligning with the Left. Mr. Karunakaran should understand that the Left will never opt for an open alliance with the NC (I). The latest development is a blessing in disguise for the Congress; it can start building up the party organisation afresh.
