VAT issue

The controversial value-added tax (VAT) has come into existence through an ordinance. Unfortunately, it is being viewed as a matter entirely between the Government and the trading sector.

This is not true. The consumers are the end-users and have been affected. Already, the prices of several medicines and other goods have risen. Will the authorities take note?

The apprehensions of the trading community on the possibility of a return of the "inspector raj" following the introduction of VAT appear to be genuine.
