HYDERABAD: A small effort brings out a qualitative change in the lives of a few children of the police personnel who laid down their lives in service. They now carry loads of confidence and enjoy the little pleasures of life, thanks to a joint effort of the Satyam Foundation and Andhra Pradesh Policemen Family Welfare Society (APPFWS).

"I am more confident and can speak fearlessly now," says one of the beneficiaries, D. Krishna Reddy. For him, life looks more positive now as he undergoes training in computers and also picks up some skills in English.

Small pleasures

Tours to the Snow World and the Imax theatre have taken care of his desire to enjoy the little pleasures of life.

The boy was sharing his experiences at the inauguration of the programme. Anita Sen, president of APPFWS, was the chief guest.

Similar was the feeling of 20-odd students of the Police Boys' Hostel that houses children of slain police personnel.

Mujeeduddin too expressed similar opinion and also put forward some demands like hostel facility till they finished their degree course.

Ms. Sen said after Swaranjit Sen had taken over as the DGP, a decision had been taken to absorb hostel students as Home Guards till they found an alternative job. She said the effort was to equip them with various skills that would help in their careers.

Extending support

Tejdeep Menon, Additional Commissioner, Traffic, said that the idea was also to give children confidence and support from the department. She said excursions to famous spots would be a part of their stay.

Nandini Raju of Satyam Foundation and Balaji Utla, Director, Satyam Foundation, were among those present.
