ENHANCING CONNECTIVITY: The Chief Executive Officer of Cable & Wirelless Asia, Phil Green (left), with the President of Tata Indicom, Enterprise Business Unit, Sandeep Mathur, at a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday.
MUMBAI: Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) has tied up with Cable & Wirelesss (C&W) to provide enhanced global connectivity to Indian customers in the IT-enabled services (ITES) segment. "The agreement with C&W will address the growing need in India for high-speed connectivity, given that there is a growing number of Indian IT and ITES companies with global operations,'' said Sandeep Mathur, President, Tata Indicom, Enterprise Business Unit, while addressing the media here on Wednesday. Further, Mr. Mathur said the tie-up would enable corporate customers like IT companies, BPO service providers and financial institutions to access C&W's global network through VSNL's domestic and international infrastructure. The customers would be able to access services like Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Secure Dial, Multi-Protocol Label switching, Internet Protocol, Virtual Private Network with quality of service (IP-VPN-QoS) and Managed Private line. VSNL had earmarked Rs. 33,000 crores towards infrastructure expansion by the end of the year. This included the sum set aside for its CDMA and wireless network development. The company had already spent 55-60 per cent of the amount, said Mr. Mathur. All C&W's branded services would be offered in India under the Tata Indicom brand and the company has set up global network nodes for facilitating this service in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. The revenue-share model between the companies would be on a case-to-case basis. Phil Green, CEO, C&W Asia, said his company had invested $2 million to set up the infrastructure for the tie-up. "There is a strong demand from business for high-end data networks for ATMs. Our business in India is growing at 50 per cent annually. We will be increasing our staff in India from the current 150 to 200 soon,'' he said.
