Revanna rubbishes quit demand

Staff Correspondent

The Minister says he is answerable only to the people who have elected him

HASSAN: Unperturbed by the demand for his resignation made by the Congress leader and former Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, and Ashok Kheny, Managing Director of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which is implementing the BMIC project, the Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, said there is no reason for him to resign as he is not answerable either to Mr. Kheny or to Mr. Shivakumar.

He said he is answerable only to the people who have elected him.

Speaking to presspersons on Wednesday, Mr. Revanna, who was here to attend a review meeting, outrightly rejected Mr. Kheny demand.

"I am not a servant of NICE to resign," he said.

Mr. Kheny had demanded the resignation of Mr. Revanna on Tuesday in the wake of the Karnataka High Court judgement on the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

Mr. Shivakumar urged Mr. Revanna to resign on moral grounds for having "misled" the Government.

Refusing to react to the High Court's verdict, Mr. Revanna said he has not gone through the judgment and will reply after receipt of the copy of the judgement.

Refutes claim

Refuting the Opposition claim that the judgment is a slap on the face of the Government, Mr. Revanna said the verdict has not harmed the image of the Government in any way and the Cabinet has unanimously decided to appeal to the Supreme Court against the order.
