CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will set up wayside modern utility services at the entry points of the State along the National Highways and Inter-State Highways to facilitate those either visiting the State or passing through it, announced the Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while presiding over a meeting of the Transport Department here on Wednesday. However, the Transport Minister, Randeep Singh Surjewala, was not present at the meeting as he was said to be away on "tour.'' An official note said that Mr. Hooda constituted a six-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary to work out the modalities of setting up these modern utility services within six months. The other members of the Committee are the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretaries of the Departments of Transport, Information Technology, Finance and Public Works (Building and Roads). These services would include petrol pumps, rest rooms, eating joints, cyber cafés and STD booths. Mr. Hooda directed the Transport Department to take appropriate steps to deal with the situation arising from overloading by vehicles. He directed that computerised weighbridges and video cameras should be installed to get information on overloading by vehicles. The Transport Commissioner and Secretary, Ramendra Jakhu, suggested that the Union Road Transport Ministry should be requested to finance one such hi-tech wayside utility services plaza as a pilot project.
