ANANTAPUR: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted autonomous status to Sri Sai Baba National Degree College for 2005-06 to 2010-11 academic years. Disclosing this at a press meet here on Wednesday, the correspondent of the college, P.L.N. Reddy, said the new status would benefit students immensely and also help the college improve the quality of education. Degree courses would be offered under semester system from 2005-06 academic year. The UGC has sanctioned Rs. 28 lakhs to the college so far for academic development. The college has student strength of 2,500 at present with 70 teaching staff.
Study centre
Based on its academic track record, the IGNOU had allotted its study centre to the college for MBA, MCA and other courses from 1988. It also houses the distance education centre of Nagarjuna University. The college has two NSS units and a wide range of play facilities. He hoped that the academic standards in the college would reach new heights with the autonomous status. The trust secretary, Meda Subrahmanyam, and member, P.V. Ramana Reddy, were also present.
