YSR assures farmers of compensation for crop loss due to gales

For education: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, laying the foundation stone for additional classrooms in the ZP High School at Vathalur in Cuddapah district on Wednesday.

VATHALUR (CUDDAPAH DT.): Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi project will be extended to cover Rajampet and Kodur constituencies and work will commence in two months, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said on Wednesday.

Addressing a Praja Patham public meeting at Vathalur in Pullampet mandal, Dr. Reddy said the tender process would be completed in two months to irrigate an ayacut of 85,000 acres in the two segments. He announced sanction of Rs. 50 lakhs to develop Rathicheruvu tank, Rs. 45 lakhs for repairs to Bontharajukunta tank and Rs. 20 lakhs for junior college buildings at Chinna Orampadu.

The Chief Minister promised revival of Apsa fruit juice factory at Anantharajupeta near Kodur in the private sector.

Water transportation

Lamenting horticultural crop losses due to gales, he assured compensation. A new crop insurance policy introduced in Cuddapah and two other districts would cover banana and papaya plantations this year, he said.

Stating that 800-ft. deep bore wells had failed to yield water in Vathalur panchayat, he assured people of transportation of drinking water to needy villages within a day. The Government was providing work for poorer sections under National Food For Work programme to prevent their migration. He warned of stern action against anyone using machinery for such works.

Charge against TDP

He charged Telugu Desam functionaries with misappropriating 50 lakh tonnes of rice between 2000 and 2004. Rebutting criticism of TDP and BJP leaders on free power supply, he said the new power policy caused hardships to big farmers owning more than three bores but not the poor ryots. The TDP rule accrued no benefit for Dalits and poorer sections, he alleged.

Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for development of 150 acres of land owned by 39 poor persons of Vathalur with Rs. 34.50 lakhs under Indira Prabha scheme. He sat on the floor with the poor persons and interacted with them. The beneficiaries had kept the lands, distributed during Indira Gandhi rule, barren. The poor would not have remained so, had Indira Gandhi been alive, he said when a woman, Lakshmamma, said she never saw the late Prime Minister.

The Minister for Technical Education, Nayini Narasimha Reddy, MLAs, G. Venkateswara Prasad, Md. Ahmedullah, D.L. Ravindra Reddy and K. Prabhathamma, A.P. Forest Development Corporation Chairman, Shaik Hussain, former Pullampet mandal president, K. Brahmananda Reddy and officials took part.
