Lecture on Ramayanam

NEW DELHI: Well-known Tamil scholar and poet Nehru Narayanan will deliver a lecture on "Kamba Ramayanam" at Delhi Tamil Sangam here for two days beginning this Thursday.

More than 30 years ago Mr. Narayanan took up the challenge of familiarising non-Tamilians with the greatness of the Tamil classic "Tirukkural''. He is a disciple of Kripananda Variar Swamigal, who was known for his religious discourses.

Demonstration

NEW DELHI: The forum of Delhi's six power employees' associations -- Joint Action Committee of Delhi Vidyut Employees and Engineers -- on Wednesday demonstrated in front of the Transco office at Rouse Avenue demanding a proper mechanism for re-negotiation of the wage agreement. Alleging that the Delhi Government was playing into the hands of private power distribution companies and blatantly ignoring the rights of power workers, the Committee said that despite directions by the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi to senior Government functionaries on the issues, nothing had happened. They have threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands are not met soon.

Aid for marriage

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, on Wednesday handed over a cheque for Rs.10,000 to Shakuntala Devi, a resident of Sudarshan Park, as an aid from the civic body for the marriage of her daughter. Under the scheme, each Councillor can provide such aid to 10 widows in his constituency.

Bhagidari workshops

NEW DELHI: The BJP Councillor, Vijender Kumar Gupta, has demanded that MCD's zonal staff be stopped from attending the district- level "Bhagidari Workshops" being held in their areas.

He alleged that a majority of MCD employees and officers attend such three-day workshops leaving the zonal offices literally empty with no one to attend to public grievances.

New cassettes

NEW DELHI: Janjhar Music released the well-known singer Manmohan Pawar's new audio-video cassettes titled "Bethi Ma Bandhre Khol Ke" and "Darbar Pe Bulla Le, Jee Naa Lage" at a function in Janakpuri here on Monday.
