MADURAI: The Syndicate of the Madurai Kamaraj University on Wednesday approved the constitution of an exclusive Planning Board to give direction and suggest initiatives for future development. Academicians and industrialists will form the board that will make periodical recommendations to the Syndicate. While the name of industrialist, Karumuttu T. Kannan, has been finalised to be on the Planning Board, the other names would be announced shortly, the Vice-Chancellor, P. Maruthamuthu, told The Hindu. He said the board would have seven members who would decide on all future perspectives of the MKU. "It shall be a recommending body that will suggest improvements necessary for the university," he said.
Board of research studies
Another decision taken by the Syndicate was to constitute a Board of Research Studies for the first time in the university. Members drawn from various disciplines, including experts from Chennai, would be appointed on the 15-member board that would be statutory. The Vice-Chancellor said senior faculty members of the varsity would be on the board, whose primary duty was to formulate the Ph. D. regulations and guidelines for research programmes. Members of the Board would also look into recognition of research guides and make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor.
