HYDERABAD: The State Government has issued orders to continue the services of contract paramedical and nursing staff in the Health Department. Bhupal, secretary, Andhra Pradesh Medical Health and Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Employees' Union stated in a press release on Wednesday that the Principal Secretary, Health, I. V. Subba Rao, communicated the orders to the Director of Medical Education and Commissioner of the parishad. He recalled that the staff working since four years in the districts of Srikakulam, East Godavari, Medak, Visakhapatnam and Guntur were removed from service following orders issued by the DCHS. On Tuesday members of the union had staged State-wide dharnas to press for their demand to continue the service of such staff.
NPPA in for review
The Government has taken up for review, the issue of extending payment of non-private practising allowance (NPPA) to doctors appointed after 1987. I.V. Subba Rao, Principal Secretary, Medical & Health, told reporters here on Wednesday that at a recent meeting on the issue, as many 18 MLAs and floor leaders of political parties unanimously favoured the payment. If the Government extends the NPPA, it would be only to establish parity among the doctors, he said. The leaders, however, insisted that while paying NPPA, the Government should enhance the working hours of doctors, say from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. He said the Government had banned private practice by its doctors but provided non-practising allowance, as compensation to certain categories in case of those appointed before 1987.
