Man killed in group clash

Staff Correspondent

BIDAR: A 35-year-old man was killed and five persons were injured in a group clash in Sindhanakera village in Humnabad taluk over differences related to the recent gram panchayat elections.

According to the police, Vishwanath Mareppa died of stab injuries in the Humnabad taluk hospital. He and his brothers were reportedly attacked with knives and sticks by Veeranna Saibanna Merge and his followers. Vishwanath's brothers — Mahadev, Lohit, Sanjiv, Prabhu and Prakash — who received injuries, are under going treatment.

Veeranna suspected that Vishwanth did not vote for him in the gram panchayat elections and he took this extreme step, the police said. The two groups had clashed even during the recent Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. Police had intervened then and diffused the situation.

Veeranna and eight others have been arrested and a case has been registered in the Chitaguppa police station. The Superintendent of Police, Umesh Kumar, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, B.B. Patil, and others visited the spot.
