PERAMBALUR: A sum of Rs. 91.32 lakh has been allocated to provide basic amenities wherever Schedule Tribes resided, the Collector, D. Vivekanandan, said here yesterday. The works would be carried out through the Rural Development Department, he said while presiding over the Adi Dravidar Welfare Committee meeting here. Stating that various welfare schemes were being implemented through the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, he said that a sum of Rs. 1.84 crore had been disbursed as educational assistance to 36,400 Adi Dravidar students last year. He said Thirumazhapadi and Kunnam had been declared as "communal harmony villages" where untouchability had been eradicated adding that a sum of Rs. 1 lakh each had been granted to these villages to carry out development works. Instructions had been given to prepare a report on the list of Adi Dravidars who required houses, he added.
