A happy violation of rules

DECENT REVENUE FOR ALL: Trucks bringing hay from Tamil Nadu to Kerala are a common sight along the Aryankavu route. They are invariably fined around Rs.400 at the Aryankavu check-post in Kollam district for violating the rules governing the volume of goods they could carry. But the drivers pay it gladly for two reasons — one, they are able to make around Rs.2,000 for every load and two, the work does not involve any strain. The officials are happy as the check-post is able to generate dece nt revenue for the Government. The cattle owners are also happy as they get good hay at a reasonable price. Photo: C.
