NAGERCOIL: : The Kanyakumari Collector, Sunil Paliwal, inaugurated a Village Information Centre at Kadiyapattinam for the benefit of the tsunami-affected fisherfolk on Tuesday. Distributing relief materials given by the business major, TATA, through efforts from M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), the Collector said the latter has extended help to 14,000 tsunami-hit families in the State, including 4,000 families in the district, by distributing relief materials worth Rs.3, 000 to each family. It has decided to construct 300 permanent houses to the tsunami-affected persons in the district, he said. The MSSRF plans to grow mangrove forests in the coastal areas of the district to arrest sea erosion in a natural manner and has sent recommendation to the Government to construct groynes along the coast to contain nature's fury, the Collector said. The MSSRF has decided to establish all facilities at Kadiyapattinam to make it a model village, he said.
