MANGALORE: The police have said that the arrest of Suresh Poojary of Nithyananda Nagar at Deralakatte at Kinnimulky near here on Wednesday, in connection with a case of dacoity at Mangalore Railway Station, has helped them solve a case of kidnapping and illegal restraint reported in Bangalore. Poojary was wanted in both these cases. The Mangalore South Police Inspector, H.N. Venkatesh Prasanna, who arrested Poojary, said the accused allegedly received Rs. 5,000 from a gang for robbing Basheer, an arecanut trader from Sagar in Shimoga district and his assistant, Udaya Gowda, on April 1. Of this, the police have recovered Rs. 3,450, shoes and a mobile phone belonging to Basheer. During interrogation, Poojary reportedly confessed to his involvement in the kidnapping and illegal detention of Somashekar, a real estate agent from Urwa in Mangalore, now settled in Bangalore, and Manjunath, his associate. Suresh and his accomplices allegedly kidnapped the two persons from near a hotel in Bangalore and illegally confined them in a house in Malleswaram in that city. The gang asked the families of Somashekar and Manjunath to pay Rs. 15 lakhs as ransom. Laxmana, one of the accused in the case, has been arrested in the railway station dacoity case. Mr. Prasanna said a case had been registered with High Grounds Police Station in Bangalore. The police in Bangalore and Mangalore are searching for the gang leader, he added.
