Title deeds likely for land of aided educational institutions

Staff Reporter

Solemn occasion: The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, and the Minister for Labour, Babu Divakaran, at the laying of the foundation stone for a multi-purpose building comp lex of the Sree Narayana Trust in Kollam on Thursday.

KOLLAM: The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, has said that the State Government will soon take a decision to grant title deeds for the lands on which educational institutions function to their respective managements.

Mr. Chandy announced this while laying the foundation stone for an eight-storey multipurpose complex of the Sree Narayana Trusts at a function here on Thursday.

He said that when title deeds were given, the market value of the lands would be waived, considering that they had been allotted to the managements decades ago. However, educational institutions owned by individuals would not be considered for the purpose.

Social justice

He said the Government was committed to ensuring social justice for all. In the last four years, the Government had not made any Plus Two allocations. If the SN Trusts and the SNDP Yogam leaders felt that injustice had been done to their community in that regard, that was because of a faux pas committed by the previous Left Democratic Front Government.

He said that Government stipulated that only those managements running high schools would be allocated the Plus Two course. Unfortunately, the SN Trusts did not have many high schools and that was why the Ezhava community could not get enough allocations.

Yet, the United Democratic Front Government under the then Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, made 10 Plus Two allocations, out of which six were given to the SNDP Yogam.

Replying to an issue raised by the Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, at the meeting, Mr. Chandy said the Government would soon solve the salary issue of the class 4 employees in aided colleges.

In his presidential address, Mr. Natesan said that along with the leaders of the Nair Service Society, he would call on the Chief Minister shortly, and the leaders of both the communities would submit separate memoranda to the Government on the various demands of both the communities.
