Telemeet: The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, interacting with doctors after launching the telemedicine facility in the TTD's SVIMS hospital on Thursday.
TIRUPATI: Cardiologist Cherian has succeeded in securing the nod of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to get his Chennai-based Frontline Hospital affiliated to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) here. The `deal' was clinched when Dr. Reddy and Dr. Cherian interacted with each other during a teleconference while inaugurating telemedicine network in SVIMS on Thursday. The cardiologist sought the Chief Minister's help to get affiliation of SVIMS for the PG course, M.Ch (paediatric cardiology), to be introduced in his hospital. Dr. Reddy, while agreeing in principle to the affiliation, asked the SVIMS Director, G. Subramanyam, to study the modalities and submit a detailed report.
Stone laid
The telemedicine network will link SVIMS with the TTD's Aswini Hospital located at Tirumala, the Frontline Hospital, Chennai, and the Bangalore-based Narayana Hridayalaya-- a cardiac foundation. The Government received a shot in the arm when the Narayana Hridayalaya's chief, Shetty, offered to treat free of cost five paediatric cardiology cases in collaboration with SVIMS if referred to his institute. Laying the foundation stone for the administrative block in SVIMS, the Chief Minister patted the hospital Director for taking up the work without seeking any financial support from the Government. The university Vice-Chancellor, Veena Noble Das, presented a report to the Chief Minister on the proposed developmental works.
