IOB, SR reign supreme

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai lifted the Arokya Trophy defeating its arch-rival Indian Bank, Chennai 70-54 in the last match of the semifinal league in the State-level basketball tournament here on Wednesday.

IOB won the title with an all-win record in the league and Indian Bank finished runner-up losing only to IOB. ICF finished third with its only win over Chennai Telephones.

In the women's section, Federation Cup champion, Southern Railway, Chennai lifted the V.K.V. Narayana Nadar Memorial Trophy with an all-win record in the four-team league and Ethiraj college finished runner-up with two wins and a loss.

Men: IOB 70 (Sivasankar 23, Megher Pande 16, John 10) bt Indian Bank 54 (Bhuvaneswar 18, Javeed Khan 14); I.C.F 75 (Senthil Selvan 21, Ashwin 15, Boopalan 14) bt Chennai Telephones 70 (Leonard Charles 17, Raja 13, Mohanraj 10).

Women: Southern Railway 71 (Shyamala 26, Durga Devi 12, Rennisa 14) bt Rising Star B.C Chennai 49 (Deepa 16, Kalaivani 10, Sathya 12).

Ethiraj College 48 (Nandini 14, Praba 12, Roshin 10) bt Rising Star B.C 47 (Lakshmi Devi 12, Deepa 12, Sathya 12).
