Tribunal constitutes vacation bench

HYDERABAD: The Central Administrative Tribunal has constituted a vacation bench, as the Hyderabad bench will remain closed from May 9 to June 1 for summer vacation.

The tribunal Registrar, N.N. Pradeep, in a press note issued here on Thursday said that Bharati Ray, Member (J), would be available from May 9 and 21 and Chhattra Sal Singh, Member (A), from May 22 to June 1.

Undertrial dies

in hospital

ADILABAD: Madavi Gopal (25), a tribal undertrial, died early on Thursday at the Government headquarters hospital here while undergoing treatment for jaundice.

He belonged to Gudipeta in Tiryani mandal. He was brought to the hospital on Wednesday from the Asifabad district jail as his condition deteriorated, according to the police. - Staff Reporter

Cracker blast: two more suspended

Srikakulam: The village secretary of Nuvvalarevu village in Vajrapukotturu mandal, N.S.S.D.V. Prasada Rao, and the headmaster of Nuvvalarevu Upper Primary School, Biju Chandra Patnaik, have been suspended in connection with the cracker blast on April 19. It claimed ten lives.

The blast occurred in a community hall where they were allowed to be manufactured.

The village secretary had failed to report this. After dousing, the retrieved material was kept in the school and there was explosion on the school premises also. - Staff Reporter

Man found murdered

CUDDAPAH: A youth, Kothapalli Srinivasulu alias Golla Sreenu of Bhimagundam village in Peddamudiyam mandal, was done to death and the body abandoned in hillocks near Brahmanapalle in Orvakallu mandal in Kurnool district, according to the Jammalamadugu rural CI, Narayana Rao. He had been missing since April 13. The police registered a case against a police gunman and four others. - Staff Reporter

TRS leader's

brother stabbed

NIZAMABAD: M iscreants stabbed, Shravan Goud, brother of Srinivas Goud, TRS leader, at his residence at Nandipet mandal headquarters town on Thursday.

The youth was admitted to hospital.

According to Nandipet Sub-Inspector, R. Bhumaiah, the miscreants were suspected to have arrived at Srinivas Goud's residence early in the morning to kidnap him. Sensing trouble Srinivas Goud ran away.

While leaving the place the miscreants inflicted knife injuries on Shravan Goud when he alerted other family members. - Staff Reporter

Family feud

leads to murder

ANANTAPUR: A conflict between the sons of two wives of a person led to the killing of one of them here on Wednesday night.

According to the police, Mahabub Basha (25), son of Jaleel's first wife was allegedly taken away by Alla Baksh, Riyaz and their friends in an autorickshaw from the former's house in Neeruganti Veedhi. Alla Baksh and Riyaz are the sons of Jaleel's second wife.

Basha was found murdered on Thursday morning. He died due to repeated stabbing all over his body. - Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The Dharmavaram police on Thursday arrested seven persons on the charge of extortion in the silk town and paraded them in the town. - Staff Reporter

Kalam visits Space Centre

NELLORE: For the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, it was the second visit to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Nellore district, on Thursday.

As President, he had earlier visited the Space Centre and interacted with a group of children and addressed his scientist colleagues. But Thursday's visit was the first by the President, coinciding with the launching of satellite network at the SDSC. - Staff Reporter

SFI activists

stage dharna

CUDDAPAH: SFI activists staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate on Thursday demanding registration of a case against Chaitanya Junior College management for running the college without Government recognition.

The SFI district secretary, T. Sunil, wanted stern action against the college for taking up admissions, despite lacking recognition.

Alleging that the college in-charge, Reddaiah Reddy, a lecturer, and other staff members tried to attack SFI activists during Wednesday's protest, he demanded booking of a case against them. - Staff Reporter

Symposium on falling morals

KURNOOL: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind will organise a symposium on the falling moral standards in society in connection with the month of the birth of Prophet Mohammad on May 15, according to the Rayalaseema organiser, S. Abdul Sattar.

He said Prophet Mohammad laid emphasis on moral values in society, which were important for the existence of humanity. - Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: The district received an average rainfall of 7.4 mm on Thursday. Rainfall recorded at other places was: Kurnool 30.2 mm, Kallur 52 mm, Orvakal 30.2 mm, Bethamcharla 25.4 mm, Krishnagiri 25 mm, Nandikotkur 25.4 mm, Midtur 30.2 mm, Koilkuntla 33.2 mm and Banaganapalli 29 mm. - Staff Reporter

Rain toll goes

up to 10

NELLORE: With the death of a 60-year-old woman in Syamasundarapuram village of Kota mandal, due to heavy rain in Nellore district, the toll has gone up to 10.

Nine persons died in different parts of the district due to lightning in the last few days.

In Gudur division alone, six persons died. - Staff Reporter
