`Praja Patham is more important'

Talks with Rayalaseema leaders soon for peace in the area

RAJAHMUNDRY: The APCC president, K. Keshava Rao, has said that Praja Patham is more important than his Shanti Yatra as several constructive programmes are being taken up under the former while the yatra is only aimed at spreading the message of peace.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday before leaving for Rampachodavaram, the APCC president said that he would call Rayalaseema leaders after his yatra to discuss steps for restoration of peace in the area.

Talks with naxals

He reiterated that his yatra was not aimed at getting any mileage. "Achieving peace overnight is not possible. My effort is to persuade Maoists to leave their arms," Dr. Keshava Rao said.

Though talks with Maoists were not successful, the Government created history by inviting them to talks, the APCC president said.

The Government implemented most of the demands put forth by Maoists during the first round of talks, including distribution of 1.56 lakh acreas of land.

Civic polls

Dr. Keshava Rao said the APCC would not interfere in selection of candidates for municipal elections. District Congress Committees would take up selection of candidates, he said.
