MRPS rally in Delhi seeks Scheduled Castes' categorisation

Special Correspondent

Memorandum soon to PM, Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti on Thursday held a procession in the capital demanding categorisation for scheduled castes in Andhra Pradesh and urged the Centre to make the necessary legislation to give effect to it.

Under the leadership of its State president, Krupakar Madiga, the samitit said early categorisation into A, B, C, and D as per their population and relative development would ensure social justice and equitability of the scheduled castes.

They said the community was the largest sub-caste among Scheduled Castes and had not got more than 2 per cent of benefits till date.

They said unless proportional representation was not made early it could lead to frustration among the students since academic session was due to being next month.

Mr. Krupakar Madiga said the samiti would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the United Progressive Alliance chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, shortly.
