Trawling ban from June 15
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Trawling ban will be imposed in the State for 45 days from June 15.
The Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation, sought the cooperation of all sections for the effective implementation of the ban at a meeting of representatives of boat owners and unions of traditional fishermen, which he convened here on Thursday as part of it.
He said that the State would request the Centre to disallow the functioning of foreign trawlers in toto in the coastal waters of Kerala during the ban. Mini-trawling too would be banned during the period. He asked the unions to discourage fishing using banned nets by traditional fishermen. Both sections should cooperate to avoid tension in connection with the ban.
