Azhikode seat for CMP likely

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF is understood to have grudgingly agreed to allot the Azhikode Assembly seat, to which by-election has been announced along with Taliparamba, to the CMP.

This followed the tough stand adopted by the CMP leader and Cooperation Minister, M.V. Raghavan. Even though, one section of the UDF leadership was initially reluctant to concede the CMP's demand, another section adopted the stand that the front cannot go on antagonising one constituent after the other. Its stand finally prevailed. The alienation of the Kerala Congress(B) and the RSP(B) and the belligerence of the Kerala Congress (Jacob), which too had since decided to quit the UDF, were undoubtedly among the factors that made the dice fall in the CMP's favour.

The UDF convener, P.P. Thankachan, has meanwhile convened a meeting of the high power committee of the front at the Cliff House on May 11. The representatives of the three parties, which have parted ways, have not been invited to the meeting.
