New ITBP and CISF chiefs appointed

NEW DELHI : The Government has appointed S.I.S. Ahmed as Director-General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Mr. Ahmed, belonging to the 1970 batch of West Bengal cadre of IPS, replaces K.M. Singh who retired last month-end. Mr. Ahmed is at present posted as Additional Director-General of Border Security Force (BSF).

S.K. Kain of the Union Territory cadre of 1970 batch of IPS was appointed Director-General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), according to an official announcement here on Thursday.

Conference

NEW DELHI: A three-day conference on "Recent Trends in Mental Health in India" organised jointly by the Amity Institute of Behavioural Health and Allied Sciences and the Hope Foundation ended here on Wednesday.

The Chairman of VIMHANS, J.N. Chaudhary, was felicitated with the Amity Golden award for his pioneering contribution in the field of mental health.

Power theft

NEW DELHI : To check power theft, BSES registered over 15, 000 cases of Dishonest Abstraction of Electricity in the Capital during 2004-2005.

According to a BSES release, over 68, 000 KW of power had been stolen from various parts of Delhi. Of these cases involving both domestic and commercial consumers nearly 10, 000 were booked in the BSES Rajdhani area, while the remaining came from the BSES Yamuna area.

Complaints of power theft can be lodged at helpline 39999733 or 39999777.

NEW DELHI : A function to mark the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in cooperation with the India-Russia Friendship Society here on Wednesday.

A message from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent for the occasion was also read out.

Research project

NEW DELHI : Observer Research Foundation today launched a Rs. 1.74-crore research project, "I-Cubed Simulation Model'', that will develop an innovative analytical tool for detailed, quantitative analysis of the country's economic, energy, and environmental policies.

Seminar

NEW DELHI : To mark the ongoing Electrical Safety Week, Northern Railway on Thursday organised a seminar at its headquarters at Baroda House in the Capital where its General Manager, Thomas Varghese, Additional General Manager, V K Kaul, and the Chief Electrical Engineer, V K Dutt, took part.
