`We want to inform that criminal cases can be filed against those who put up banners without permission.'
HUBLI: The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has taken some steps to prevent defacement of public property and initiate action against offenders. The corporation has published advertisements in newspapers against defacement of public property by putting up banners, buntings, and posters without its permission. Chief zonal officers of the corporation have been given powers to grant permission for buntings and banners and take action whenever the rules are violated. "First we want to create awareness that it is mandatory to get permission from the corporation to put up banners and buntings in public places," P. Manivannan, Commissioner of the corporation, said. The chief zonal officers will be held responsible if the menace continues in the twin cities, he said. "We want to warn those pasting obscene posters of films on the walls of public buildings that they are liable to imprisonment up to two years. We want to inform that criminal cases can be filed against those who put up posters, banners and arches without the permission of the corporation, Mr. Manivannan said. The corporation wants the general public to be aware of the consequences if they violate the rules and thereby abide by the law, the commissioner of the corporation said. If there is no change, the corporation will initiate stringent action against such offenders, he said.
