`TDP levelling baseless charges to gain mileage'

Special Correspondent

Takes exception to charges levelled by TDP leaders

VIJAYAWADA: Taking strong objection to the criticism of Left parties by the TDP leaders, the city committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has described the TDP leaders' comments as "irrelevant utterances" aimed at boosting the sagging morale of the party cadre. Unable to digest the growing popularity of the Left parties in the city, the TDP urban wing president, Gadde Ramamohan, was making "baseless" comments to divert people's attention from the failures of the TDP at city and State levels.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the CPI (M) city secretary, Ch. Babu Rao, said that the TDP leaders were not learning lessons even after the people rejected them outright in the previous elections. Instead, they were trying to unleash a false propaganda against the Left parties with an eye on the forthcoming elections to the municipal corporation. But, the people were wise enough and they would teach a fitting lesson to the TDP as well as the Congress in the coming elections. Refuting Mr. Ramamohan's claims that the Left parties were hindering industrial development in the city, he questioned the rationale behind the TDP leader making such comments when his party (the TDP) was in power for a full 10-year tenure in the State. "Why was industrial development not given priority and why did not the then TDP Government take any steps to give the required boost to industrial development in the city when it was at the helm of affairs in both the corporation as well as the State?" he asked.

On corruption charges levelled against the Left parties, Mr. Babu Rao, wondered as to why the TDP did not order a probe to bring out the facts and punish the guilty. "Mr. Ramamohan makes all these remarks along with the people facing land grabbing and forgery charges.

This is only an attempt to keep their flock, which is becoming disillusioned, together," he said. He also ridiculed the TDP leader for his comments at a time when his party's State leadership was making no secret of its inclination to align with the Left parties by parting ways with the NDA.
