MYSORE: A gang of armed dacoits struck in the early hours on Thursday at Kodasoge village in H.D. Kote taluk in Mysore district and decamped with Rs. 43,000 in cash and gold jewellery. The gang struck at around 2.15 a.m. and went on a looting spree and attacked three persons before escaping with the loot. Six masked men, who spoke Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu, first attacked Raja, who was sleeping outside a farmhouse and took away Rs. 1,000 in cash and a wristwatch from him. The armed dacoits then targeted the house of Nasser, a fishing contractor, and relieved him of cash and locked him up with Mr. Raja at the farmhouse. The gang members assaulted a watchman, Erappa, and stormed into the farmhouse of Karigowda and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to part with jewellery and other valuables. When the latter resisted, the gang assaulted him and took away Rs. 40,000 in cash that was meant for Mr. Karigowda's daughter's wedding, and jewellery, belonging to his wife. The dacoits, who ransacked the house, warned them against alerting the police and escaped. The Deputy Supterintendent of Police, Hunsur Division, M.M. Mahadevaiah, and H.D. Kote police rushed to the spot at around 4.30 a.m. and launched a man-hunt. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts were pressed into service. A case has been registered.
