Hawaii centre donates to tsunami relief
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
The East-West Centre, Hawaii, has donated $ 5,000 to the Rural Organisation for Social Action (ROSA) in Nagapattinam for tsunami relief.
S.P. Thiagarajan, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University, and an alumni of the East-West Centre, handed over the cheque to ROSA's managing trustee R. Veronica at a meeting organised at the university on Thursday.
Ms. Veronica said the money would enable more than 38 tsunami-affected families in Nagapattinam to buy fishing nets and engines, repair boats and start small businesses.
Ravi Kandadai from the Public Affairs office of the U.S. Consulate-General in Chennai, and P.M. Belliappa, chairman, EWC Alumni Chennai chapter, participated in the function.
