Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Saturday in parts of Ambattur, VSI Estate, Maduravoyal, Muthialpet, Flower Bazaar, S.K.Nagar, Pallavaram, J.J.Nagar and Tiruvanmiyur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Golden chariot

The Marundeeswarar Temple, Tiruvanmiyur, celebrated the inauguration of the construction of a golden chariot on Thursday. D.Jayakumar, Law Minister participated in the ceremony.

College fete

Ragas Dental College and Hospital, a unit of Jaya Educational Society, celebrated its 16th college day early this week. C.V.Bhirmanandham, vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University was the chief guest.

ABVP workshop

A personality development workshop was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Wednesday at Shrine Velankanni School, T.Nagar, where the participants learnt about the importance of developing communication skills for a successful career.

Spot interview for

U.K. university

A representative from University of Leeds, U.K., will visit Chennai on May 14 to interview students interested in higher education. The University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in branches, including Arts and Sciences and Engineering. Students are required to bring along their resume and certificates for the meeting with Andrew Lock, Dean, Leeds University Business School.

Woman beaten

to death

A 28-year-old woman was beaten to death by her relatives in Ottiyambakkam on Wednesday. Pallikaranai police identified the victim as M. Kamakshi.

The woman was beaten up after she intervened when some of her relatives allegedly assaulted her sister. Srinivasan, the victim's brother-in-law and two others, Kanagaraj and Kokila, allegedly assaulted Kamakshi, who fell unconscious.

She was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Pallikaranai police said they had arrested the three.

Man set ablaze in Thoraipakkam

A 36-year-old man died after he was allegedly set on fire by three persons at Kannagi Nagar in Thoraipakkam on Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Maran. Maran was a police informant and his tip-offs had led to the arrest of several criminals.

On Wednesday, three men poured petrol on him and set him ablaze at a tea stall. People in the vicinity managed to douse the flames and rushed him to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where he died later in the day.

Police have arrested four men - Appu, Kutti, Joseph,and Rajesh over the murder.
