New chief for Southern Naval Command

KOCHI: Rear Admiral Rajender Singh, a specialist in missiles and gunnery, took over as the Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Command on Thursday from Rear Admiral R.F. Contractor.

Rear Admiral Singh did his schooling in Sainik School, Kazhakuttam, before joining the Naval Academy in Kochi. A post-graduate from Defence-Service Staff College, Wellington, he is also an alumnus of the College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai, and Naval War College, Newport, USA.

He commanded naval ships, Trisul (missile frigate), Vibhuti and Veer (missile corvettes) and Rana (missile destroyer) and also the 22nd missile-vessel squadron.

He was the ADC to the President, Directing Staff at the College of Naval warfare and the Commanding Officer of INS Agnibahu.

A recipient of the Nao Sena Medal and the Vishist Seva Medal, Rear Admiral Singh was also the Assistant Chief of Personnel (Personnel and Conditions) at the Naval Headquarters, prior to taking over his present appointment.
