KOCHI: The FACT Joint Trade Union Council has said it will back any proposal from the Union Government to rehabilitate the fertiliser company and retain it in the public sector. The trade unions were unanimous in their decision to work together to get a revival package for the ailing fertiliser giant approved by the Union Government. B. Sashidharan, chairman of the Joint Trade Union Council, described as false, reports that the revival package submitted to the Union Finance Ministry had been rejected. Various trade unions that met at Udyogamandal on Wednesday were unanimous in their decision to back a revival proposal. A spokesman for the trade unions indicated that the trade union stand sent a clear signal to the Union Fertiliser Ministry that workers were amenable to Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) taking management control of the FACT, in case a proposal by the former was accepted by the newly-constituted Board For Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE). George Thomas, general secretary, FACT (Petrochemicals Division) Workers' Organisation, said that the proposals submitted by the FACT management were still in the reckoning and that they had been referred to the BRPSE. He also said that any proposal to ensure job protection for the workers and a better future for the company as a public sector unit would be backed by the trade unions.
