BANGALORE: A Veda gosha, two specially composed songs, garlands, bouquets, shawls and a huge fan following. All this and more were showered on Parvathama Rajkumar, wife of matinee idol, Rajkumar, on Thursday. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) honoured Ms. Parvathamma in recognition of her being felicitated by the Dada Saheb Phalke Academy of Mumbai recently. Referring to Ms. Parvathamma as "akkaavaru" (sister) and "ammavaru" (mother), Kannada actors and members of various associations in the film industry and the KFCC heaped praises on her. "It is a matter of pride for us that our akka has been honoured by the Dada Saheb Phalke Academy. She deserves this honour for nurturing the film industry," the president of KFCC, H.D. Gangaraju, said Film director T.S. Nagabharana; producer Sandesh Nagaraj; actress Jayanthi; the Director of Department of Information and Publicity, C. Chandrashekar; and the former president of KFCC, K.C.N. Chandrashekar, also praised Ms. Parvathamma. Speaking after the felicitation, Ms. Parvathamma said it was her family's desire that she strive and protect the film industry from all problems. "My husband says producers are our `annadataru' (employers). I second this. We are indebted to the industry and will continue to work for its welfare," she added. Rajkumar said he was overwhelmed by the affection shown by his "abhimani devaragalu" (fans). "Parvathamma has been by my side in every success and I am happy to be by her side when she is being honoured," he said. The Rajkumar family was present.
When Raj met Parvati
On Thursday, Rajkumar went down memory lane and recalled how he met his life partner several years ago when she was about four or five months old. "It was when my father took me to their house to help me learn music from her father. I met her first when she was four or five months old," he said.
