NEW DELHI: To mark Russian Children's Protection Day, a two-day cultural festival began at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Thursday. Organised jointly by Nehru Bal Samiti and the Indo-Russian Council for Child Development, the festival saw students from 34 educational institutions, including the Russian School and the Bal Vikas Kendras, participate in an on-the-spot painting competition. The children, divided into three age groups, drew paintings on themes like disasters caused by natural calamities, different colours of nature and tragedies caused by the Second World War. A folk group dance competition was also held in which 200 children of 17 schools from Delhi and neighbouring towns presented colourful dances representing the folk styles of Rajasthan, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. On Friday, an exhibition of select paintings will be put on display, and three folk dancing teams will perform on stage.
