NEW DELHI: The Delhi Power Minister, Haroon Yusuf, said on Thursday that an Apex Committee would be constituted in each parliamentary constituency with the Members of the Legislative Assembly and the Member of Parliament as the other members to discuss and sort out problems pertaining to supply of electricity. Speaking after meeting the East Delhi MP, Sandeep Dikshit, and the area MLAs, Mr Yusuf said various issues and problems of people pertaining to electricity were discussed. He said ever since the private companies came into picture three years ago, there have been numerous grievances of the people and on Thursday efforts were made to seek redressals. On the issue of electricity meters running fast, he said, BSES has claimed that of 400 meters surveyed not one had been found to be performing irregularly. Still, the Minister said, there was a need to satisfy the people and remove the misgivings. Averring that this was the first time that such a committee has been formed, he hoped that it would help solve the present problems properly. The MLA from Wazirpur and former Delhi BJP president, Mange Ram Garg, said most of the problems pertaining to electricity were primarily due to complete lack of coordination between various agencies. "One agency puts the electricity pole and the other takes them off," he said, adding that the issue of many poles standing right in the middle of the roads was also discussed. Mr Garg said the representatives of the people had also demanded that the meters should be checked and the reasons for loadshedding should be explained. "When the power situation is so poor right now, what will happen in peak summer," he wondered aloud. The MLA said it was also pointed out during the meeting that in a number of parks the electricity supply of tubewells has been cut due to which the parks were drying up.The MLA from Babarpur, Vinay Sharma, said during the meeting the companies said that they were prepared to get their meters checked anywhere and stressed on the need for making the public aware about conserving electricity. For the advertisement campaign, Mr Sharma said, he had even suggested having a brand ambassador for taking the message across effectively. The Seemapuri MLA, Veer Singh Dhingan, used the opportunity to the raise the issue of proper installation and maintenance of high tension wires, streetlights and high mast lights. He also demanded that the roads be cleared of electricity poles which pose a grave threat to motorists and pedestrians.
