Revision in minimum wages sought

COIMBATORE: Plantation workers have demanded revision of minimum wages commensurate with the price rise. Voicing their demand at the advisory meeting on minimum wages, presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Labour, R. Raghunath, at Coonoor on Wednesday, the workers' representatives suggested that the tea factories could pay higher price for tea leaves if they were to reduce the cost of production. However, according to a Labour Department release, the representatives of the managements contended that any proposed rise in minimum wages should be "moderate" as the small growers had seriously been affected due to slump in green leaf price.
