Folk art events in Kannur

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: Folk art performances and a seminar will be held at Kulappuram near Payyannur on May 7 and 8 under the joint auspices of the Kannur University Students' Union and the Kerala State Folklore Academy.

The union chairman, E.C. Bineesh, said at a press conference here on Thursday that Folkfest 2005, being held on the premises of the Kulappuram Library, would be attended by folk artistes and scholars. Presentation of papers and discussions on "Folklore and Kerala society" and staging of Padayani, a folk-art form, would be the highlights of the event, he said.

Students from some colleges affiliated to the university and members of local arts clubs would participate, he said.

The fest would be formally inaugurated by the social critic Sukumar Azhikode at 5 p.m.
