Sangareddy: The Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers (RPT) leader, Patlolla Goverdhan Reddy, was produced in court here on Friday in connection with a murder at Sadasivapet in Medak district two years ago. He is wanted in another case in Medak for illegal possession of weapons. After the hearing he was taken back to Cherlapally jail in Hyderabad. - Staff Reporter

Congressman murdered

CUDDAPAH: A Congress activist, Bhaskar Reddy (33), was stabbed to death at Angadi Veedhi of Chintakomm-adinne on Friday. Bhaskar Reddy, a fair price shop dealer of Chinna Veparala in Mylavaram mandal, was to meet an acquaintance when unidentified persons attacked him and inflicted stab wounds on him. - Staff Reporter

Woman axed to death

KARIMNAGAR: A hotel worker reportedly axed his wife to death suspecting her fidelity in Pochammawada locality of Jagtial on Thursday. According to P. Prashanth Reddy, SI, the accused person, Ramulu alias Rahman (45), a native of Mahabubnagar district, was a divorcee and married to another divorcee, Rahana (22), three years ago. - Staff Reporter

7 hurt in cracker blast

Kakinada: Seven persons, including five women, were injured when crackers they were manufacturing at G. Ragampet village, near Samalkot, exploded accidentally around noon on Friday. The injured persons were admitted to Government General Hospital where condition of five persons was reported critical. According to the Peddapuram police, who registered a case, the injured persons were employed by a licenced cracker manufacturer. - Correspondent

Life term for man

ADILABAD: The Second Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court), K.V. Vijay Kumar, on Friday sentenced one Pitla Rajeshwar of Jam village in Sarangapur mandal to life imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000 for killing Nalimela Ramesh on July 12, 2003. The prosecution conducted by the Additional Public Prosecutor proved that the accused person had killed Ramesh suspecting him to have illicit relationship with his wife. - Staff Reporter

Power supply hit due

to heavy gales

ELURU: Gales with high velocity, accompanied by showers, caused serious damage to the power transmission network in different parts of the district on Friday. Several areas -- Eluru, Bhimavaram, Narsapur, Palacole, Chintalapudi and T. Narsapur -- experienced disruption in power supply for some time. However, the supply was restored by the authorities. Trees got uprooted in Shantinagar and Vidyanagar areas in Eluru. Mango crop was damaged in Chintalapudi, T. Narasapur and Jangareddygudem areas and banana plantations were damaged in Vijayarai. - Staff Reporter

Gurukulam admissions

HYDERABAD: Girijana Gurukulam schools (English medium) at Warangal, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad have invited applications for admission into V to VIII classes for 2005-06. The last date for submitting applications is May 10. CUDDAPAH: Gaddam Gangadharm (16), who failed in the SSC examination, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide near a rice mill in Chemmumiyapet in Cuddapah town on Friday. He was admitted to Cuddapah Government Hospital and was convalescing. - Staff Reporter

Summer sports camp inaugurated

CHITTOOR: The Chairman, State Sport Authority, U.S. Raj Thakur, inaugurated a summer sports coaching camp here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Thakur said that the `Rajiv Kreedavikas' scheme would be implemented to tap sports talent among rural youth and to train them to compete in the State and national games and sports. The sanctioning of sports schools, regional sports hostels, etc., were an effort in this direction, he said. - Correspondent

Sandalwood seized

NELLORE: Senior police officials, led by Gudur DSP, Devadanam, laid a siege on the godown of a sick unit at Tada of Nellore district on Friday and took over more than 402 logs of sandalwood, valued at more than Rs. 2 crores at current prices.

They also found two vehicles and one a weighing machine on the premises, besides nine workers.

Man hurt in attack

dies in hospital

KURNOOL: A person, identified as Lakshmaiah of PWD Bungalow in Kazipet mandal of Cuddapah district, died at the General Hospital here on Friday.

According to reports, Laxmaiah, his daughter, Subbaratnamma and wife Venkatalakshmi were attacked by the relatives of his son-in-law, Srinivasulu, an APSRTC employee, who died recently. The two families clashed over sharing of the death benefits of the employee. __Staff Reporter

Panchayat official

killed in mishap

KURNOOL: A panchayat secretary at Gummalur in Chippagiri mandal, Somnath Goud, died in a road accident at Aluru on Friday.

According to reports, he was seriously hurt in a scoot-auto collision near Aluru last night.

He died in the hospital while undergoing treatment for head injuries.__Staff Reporter
