APCC chief asks KCR to tone down rhetoric

Special Correspondent

`Venkataswami remarks reflect party line' Venkataswami's remarks reflect party line, says APCC chief

VISAKHAPATNAM: "The Congress president and United Progressive Alliance leader, Sonia Gandhi, is seized of the Telangana issue, and there is no need for anybody to rake up the issue every now and then,'' the APCC president, K. Keshava Rao, said here on Friday.

Addressing a media conference at the conclusion of his Shanti Yatra, Dr. Keshava Rao regretted the attack of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief and Union Labour Minister, K. Chandrasekhara Rao, on the Congress leader, G. Venkataswami, for his recent statement on the Telangana issue.

``Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao must mind his language while criticising elders like Mr. Venkataswami, who has not said anything other than re-stating the Congress stand,'' he pointed out.

The APCC president reiterated the party stand favouring the appointment of a second States Reorganisation Commission for creating smaller States.

He thanked people, including Girijans, for making the yatra a success.

Motives denied

He said that there was an awareness among people on the need for peace to solve various problems.

Describing the Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Bandaru Dattatreya's comment that "I am undertaking this yatra with chief ministership in mind'' as uncharitable, Dr. Keshava Rao said: "The yatra's main purpose is to create an atmosphere of understanding to tackle issues concerning people, and nothing else.''

About the delay in the choice of district Congress committees, he indicated that within the next 15 days 50 per cent of the posts would be filled.

He denied the suggestion that only those who were close to party leaders would get ticket for the coming local body elections, and said invariably local party committees would choose the candidates.

Should there be any problem, district-level leaders, including MLAs, would be involved in the selection. "The PCC will not impose its will on these committees,'' he said.
