HYDERABAD: Following dislocation of the left arm of Nagarjunasagar's 23rd crest gate, engineers of the Irrigation Department inspected the rest of the 25 crest gates of the dam and found them safe and intact. The team which visited the dam on Thursday, led by its chief engineer, Y. Abdul Basheer, ruled out any risk or danger to the locking/opening system of the dam on account of the dislocation.
No suspects
Speaking to The Hindu here on Friday, Mr. Basheer said the dislodging of the left arm could be due to loosening of the bolts or sheer mishandling. As of now, they had suspicion on none. However, the local police were asked to continue their investigation from all angles, including sabotage. He said there would not have been any scope of catastrophe even if there were a large gap between the 23rd crest gate and the solid structure due to dislocation because the storage in the dam was available only up to 506.1 ft. Meanwhile, experts left here for the dam site to rejoin the left arm with the crest gate.
