Congressmen want Jharkiholi to quit

Staff Correspondent

Minister charged with failure to ensure justice to the exploited Minister charged with failure to ensure justice to the exploited

BELGAUM: A section of Congress workers, led by the youth leader from Arabhani Assembly segment in Gokak taluk, Arvind Dalwai, has asked the State Janata Dal(S) Vice-President and Textiles Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, to quit as he had "failed" to keeps his words that he will provide justice to the exploited and underprivileged sections of society. He had made this promise at a public meeting in Koppal recently.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Arvind Dalwai alleged that the Janata Dal (S) leaders had thrown all democratic norms to the winds and indulged in forgery and cheating in the APMC elections under way.

He said signatures of three candidates, Maruti Govindappa Harijan from Arabhanvi reserved award, Siddalingamma Kareppa Pandaroli from Kalloli and Narasappa Nidasoshi from Nagnur ward, were forged on the withdrawal forms and submitted to Arabhavi Returning Officer who accepted them.

This was a clear case of senior officials such as the Tahsildar and Returning Officer becoming subservient to their political masters in the Janata Dal(S).

He demanded that the election process for the wards falling in Arabhavi Assembly segment be cancelled and urged the Chief Election Officer to initiate the process afresh.

He said his brother, Anil Dalwai, who is a government employee, was beaten up recently. In fact, it was case of mistaken identity as the brothers had resemblance to each other. Workers from Gokak mills were hired to attack Mr. Anil Dalwai, he claimed.

Though a complaint was lodged, the police have arrested some persons not involved in the attack.

Also, another Congress worker, Bheemappa Lagali, was beaten by police at the instance of the Janata Dal(S) leaders, he said.

Mr. Arvind Dalwai said he had registered a complaint with the district election officer and Deputy Commissioner.
