Camp

The District Rehabilitation Centre, the Department of Psychiatry of CMC Hospital and Saarathy - Pammac will organise a camp at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Valparai on May 8.

Children and adults with intellectual disabilities will be assessed by experts and National Disability Identity Card and Railway Concession Certificate will be issued. The certificates will be issued free of cost and hence, parents should bring their wards for assessment in the camp.

Nominated

The University Grants Commission has nominated the director and secretary of the Kongunadu Arts and Science College, M. Aruchami, as the UGC nominee on the Planning and Monitoring Board of the Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati.

Twenty-one postgraduate colleges, two engineering colleges, six law colleges, 16 colleges of education, two physical education colleges, three oriental colleges and a college of music and dance are affiliated to the University, which offers distance learning programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Detained under

Goonda's Act

The City Police Commissioner, Karan Singha, has ordered the detention of Manikandan (27) of Devendra Street in Ramanathapuram, a `notorious pocket-picker' under the Goonda's Act.

The accused was involved in 27 cases and was last arrested by the Kattoor Police when he waylaid Balan and robbed him of Rs. 200 at knife point in Gandhipuram. He was remanded to custody in that case and the detention orders had been served on him.

Air Marshal to visit city

Air Marshal S. Bhojwani, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Headquarters, Training Command, will be arriving Coimbatore on May 8 on a two-day visit.

He will inaugurate the second Science and Engineering Research Council on Aviation Meteorology to be co-hosted by the Bharatiar University and Air Force Administrative College on May 9.
