BANGALORE: Indian Seniors campers, divided into two teams A and B expectedly cruised into the women's final of the inaugural Rajiv Gandhi Memorial all India Invitation Prize money volleyball tournament at the Hoody SC court here on Saturday. But both the Senior teams looked rusty and ragged en route to four sets victories. While the `A' team huffed and puffed its way past a lackluster Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) at 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17 the `B' team downed local side Karnataka Hoody Club at 26-24, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18. Vaishali Phadtare still seem to have a lot of volleyball in her. Vaishali sprayed passes intelligently and efficiently to enable her tall spikers Shiby and Ashwini to spike at will. With Shiji Kurian and the lanky Priyanka Bora too making good use of the `short lifts' to telling effect the `B' team wrapped up the first two sets in a jiffy. In the third however, the tall Karnataka captain Mamata Shetty and upcoming Hank K.M, did an appreciable job in blocking out the rival spikers and with Yogita and Hemlatha chipping in usefully the local team.
Too good
In the earlier match, the Indian Seniors `A' team with a host of KSEB players in it ranks was just a trifle too good. But Anitha Mathew, Hemalatha and Gisha Thomas showed better spiking prowess and won the first two sets with a degree of comfort but conceded too many negatives in the third to lose the set. KSEB however hardly looked in the match with Prajeesha too playing well within herself and lost the fourth rather tamely. The results: Women (Semifinals): Indian Srs `A' bt KSEB 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17; Indian Srs `B' bt Karnataka Hoody Club 26-24, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18.
