dated May 9, 1955: Mathai is SBI Chairman

The Government of India has offered Dr. John Mathai, former Finance Minister, the Chairmanship of the Board of Directors of the State Bank of India, to be set up under the State Bank Act recently passed by Parliament. Dr. Mathai has accepted the offer.
