Godhra riots a black spot, says Mahajan

NEW DELHI: BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan has described the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat as the party's "second regret" after Ayodhya and a "black spot" on any civilised society.

"We could not, we regret, expedite the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya though we did try to find an amicable solution but in vain. The Gujarat riots are the second regret for us. They proved a dampener to our resolve to turn India into a riot-free nation. The incidents after the Godhra tragedy are a black spot on any civilised society. When the incident occurred, we were in the Government both at the Centre and in Gujarat," he says in an article in the latest issue of party organ BJP Today.

`Table Phukan report'

Guwahati Special Correspondent writes:

Mr. Mahajan on Sunday reiterated the party's demand that the Phukan Commission report be tabled in Parliament. The country needs to know what the report says and not the flights Mr. Justice Phukan took in the Indian Air Force, he told presspersons here.
