Vijaykumar steals the show

Special Correspondent

PANJIM: C. Vijaykumar remembered his parents in the hour of glory after being honoured with the `best rider' tag at the MRF National Supercross championship's first leg. The TVS Bangalore competitor, winner of both races in Indian Experts-Foreign Motorcycles (250cc-450cc) class, transformed the Campal Parade ground track into a dustbowl.

Riding a TVS 250X race machine, he was followed home a distance behind by Yogesh Barguje (Yamaha Bangalore) on a YZ 250 and TVS teammate C.S. Santosh, on a TVS 125X, in second (51 pts) and third (30pts) slots respectively.

The TVS ace, National champion in 2004, amassed 40 points in the two major races over 12 laps of tough dirt track, wowing audiences on the triple bumps and table tops, then added 15 more points for a third place finish in Indian Motorcycles 80-150cc event.

Barguje and Sayed Ehtesham (Yamaha Bangalore) were the other standout performers in the Sportstrek-organised first leg, co-sponsored by SKF Bearings and IndianOil. The latter led from start to finish in the 80-150cc race for Indian motorcycles, then lost control after six laps in the 250-450cc moto 2 race, allowing Barguje the opportunity to zoom into second spot behind Vijaykumar.
