KOLKATA: Four coaches, two Australian and as many Indians, have been short-listed as prospective coaches for the Indian cricket team. Among the eight names the specially constituted committee, comprising the Board President, Ranbir Singh Mahendra, former president, Jagmohan Dalmiya, three eminent former players, Sunil Gavaskar, Srinivas Venkataraghavan and Ravi Shastri, along with Board secretary, S.K. Nair, discussed here on Sunday, Greg Chappell and Tom Moody from Australia and Mohinder Amarnath and Sandip Patil of India were retained for the next stage of the selection process. Speaking to the media immediately after conclusion of the first meeting to select a successor for New Zealander, John Wright, the Board president, Mr. Mahendra, said three more foreign coaches would be considered before finalising the person who would coach India till the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. "Before June 15 India will have a new coach,'' informed the President and said, "he will be in-charge of the Indian team till the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.'' Later this month, the committee would meet where the short-listed candidates would be called for an interview. "The date of the interview will be decided upon considering the availability of the candidates,'' Mr. Mahendra said. He also explained that none of the two Indians short-listed had applied for the job or sent in his CV. "The two were considered purely on their past performance as coaches,'' he said.
