KOLKATA: The Indian women's recurve team, consisting of Dola Banerjee, Reena Kumari and Ranu, took the silver medal behind Ukraine in the 18th Golden Arrow Grand Prix archery championship at Antalya in Turkey. According to information reaching here, the second ranked Indian team lost to top ranked Ukraine in the final. The silver medal winning performance was also the Indian women's team's best showing in any international event outside Asia. India's previous silver medal finish was achieved in the first Asian circuit meet at Bangkok. The silver medal apart, the Indian contingent failed to make much impact in other categories. The Indian compound men's team lost to Turkey in the pre-quarterfinals while the women's team lost to Germany in the quarterfinals. The men's recurve team too failed to finish in the medal bracket. Ukraine won both the men's and women's recurve team titles. Ukraine men defeated Italy in the final. Russia finished third. In the women's section, it was Ukraine, India and Russia in that order. In the compound category, Sweden won the men's crown followed by Spain and The Netherlands. In the women's section, Russia defeated Germany for the gold medal while Holland was third.
