State ignores vital project-related issues: CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: The Communist parry of India (Marxist) has asked the State Government to come out with a white paper on the road map for completion of proposed irrigation projects.

The party feels that the Government has given undue attention to the tender process ignoring vital issues such as inter-state disputes, compensation to farmers and funds for speedy implementation of projects.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the Medak district committee extended meeting here on Sunday, The party Polit Bureau member and State secretary, B.V. Raghvulu, asked the Government to protest against construction of projects on the Godavari by Maharashtra. He expressed fear that the neighbouring State's grandiose plans would pose a threat to projects on the Godavari in Telangana region. He criticised the Government for its "inaction" on the issue.

He wanted the Government to first sort out water-sharing disputes with Orissa, Karnataka and Maharashtra before paying huge advances to contractors.

District-level index

Mr. Raghavulu announced that his party was preparing a district-level development index of all backward regions of State to help the Government prioritise its expenditure. He said the experiment had yielded good results in West Bengal and Karnataka.

The CPI(M) proposed to undertake a study-cum-agitation programme in southern Telanagana, northern coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema from September to December and submit its report to the Government.

Responding to a question on the possibility of working with the Congress in the coming municipal elections, Mr. Raghavulu said CPI(M) was ready to work with any political party or group that had no links with the BJP or the TDP.
